ACS Wins an “Oscar” for Customer Service!

We won an Academy Award Oscar for customer service!!  Well, it feels like we did.

Oh, we like to consider ourselves smart, clever, problems-solvers…and we are.  But most of all ACS Industrial is a collaboration of customer-centered, skilled people who listen.  Why?  Because it matters.  A lot.

When we get letters like the one below we share them with our entire staff to make sure they know how important true customer service is and to show our appreciation…

“Just thought I would let you know that you guys have WONDERFUL customer service!  I have spoken with Jennifer, Bridget, and Wendy and EVERYONE is nothing short of professional and considerate.  We are a service provider as well, and we preach to our team all the time about what a difference great customer service can make.  Kudos to you all for such a great job.”    Amanda P., Account Manager

You matter.  The repair job you sent us matters.  Your company matters to us.  No matter what type of industrial electronic repair you send to ACS from power supply repair to monitor repair to servo motor repair and everything in between, we want to get it repaired fast and back to you in perfect working order so you can get back to business.

Now I’m going to go polish all of our “Oscars”… and maybe install a glamorous red carpet too for our terrific customer service team!

Cool New Musical Invention – Check It Out Now

See the Harpejji in action on Oscar Night February 2th 2011If you were thinking of just maaaybe watching the Academy Awards (or maybe your wife/girlfriend/room mate, etc.) is making you watch) on Sunday night, here’s another reason to watch, at least between 8:00 and 9:00 pm…the awesome new Harpejji (see pic) will be featured when A.R. Rahman and Florence Welch of “Florence and the Machine” perform the Oscar-nominated song “If I Rise” from the movie “127 hours”! 127 Hours is up for Best Picture.

The Harpejji is the combination of an electric guitar and a piano and is played by tapping the strings.  As musicians become aware of this new instrument, popularity is growing!  Musicians like A.R. Rahman (also famous for “Slumdog Millionaire”), Coldplay, and Dream Theater use harpejjis.

This is a big deal for Tim Meeks, the inventor and founder of Marcodi Musical  Products; John Meyer  (my little brother) who has been involved in the development of the Harpejji (and actually builds these instruments); and Jason Melani who works hard marketing.

So be on the musical cutting edge and watch on Oscar Night, Sunday, February 27th!  And, if you know someone who might be interested please pass along the information.

You can watch the harpejji right now at or go to YouTube for more.

You’ve Gotta See This

Robotic Hummingbird SuperspyScience fiction once again comes to life.  No, not flesh eating zombies but a tiny, incredibly dexterous robotic spy plane developed by  the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) and built by AeroVironment .  You don’t think that’s totally cool?  Well, you will when you see it.  What’s really cool about it is that it looks and moves just like a real hummingbird!  Talk about covert surveillance!

The hummingbird drone is able to fly forward, backward, and sideways, as well as rotate clockwise and counterclockwise using only it’s two wings for propulsion and control.  It is also about the same size as an actual hummingbird with a 6.5 inch wingspan and weight of 19 grams.

The little guys can currently fly for about eight minutes, which is considerably longer than it’s previous range of only 20 seconds.  Engineers say this is still a prototype and are working on advancing the “humming-bot” superspies’ capabilities to complete complex reconnaissance missions.

It can perch near its surveillance subject without drawing suspicion, assuming of course that the area actually has hummingbirds.  Next time you see a mysterious hummingbird outside your window you might want to think about what you’ve been up to lately.  Oh,and when your kid wants to sign up for the school robotics team, you might want to let them give it a go.  You never know what they might invent in the future.

As readers of this blog, you may not have James Bond-esque hummingbirds that need repair, but you likely have a few other, equally as important to you, industrial electronics that are needing repair.  From power supply repair to plc repair, to drive and motor repair, our tech team is skilled and ready for action.  Who knows, maybe we’ll even get to repair a rogue hummingbird-bot if it gets hung up in the wrong nest!

If you want to see a video of the “humming-bot” in action here ya go:  Really cool!

A 2010 Camaro vs. a 2003 Elantra

Yesterday afternoon, after fidgeting for an hour in a cracked, plastic chair at the Motor Vehicle Administration, my middle son received his learner’s permit and his Rookie Driver handbook….just thought ya’ll should know about this disturbing fact.  If you are a parent of teenage sons, as I am of three of these buffalo, then you know why it is disturbing.

This is the car he is planning to drive…a 2011 Camaro.  Reality, however, is that a 2003 Hyundai Elantra, previously dented up by his older brother, is what awaits him in the driveway.  But he can dream…and plan for the future.

No matter what the size of your business right now, you probably started out with the proverbial shoe string budget and a lot of dreams and plans.  I sure did back when I was driving the aforementioned Elantra.

Our business is to help you take care of YOUR business by keeping your industrial electronic equipment in excellent working order.  Watching your budget, spending wisely, and knowing your options are keys to growing and maintaining your business.

Free repair evaluations with no obligation and friendly, helpful customer service are two of the commitments we have made to make maintenance easier for you.  Think you might need power supply repairs? CNC repairs?  Drive repairs? Send them in to our expert tech team for a free evaluation, or any other industrial electronic item that needs repair or inspection.

Meanwhile, I’ll be tooling around (trying to remain calm) in the old ’03 Elantra with a skinny 16-year-old at the wheel.  Before I know it, buffalo #3 will be ready to drive whatever is left of the Elantra and he too will be dreaming big.

Rediscover Your Inner Scientist

So, it’s Jules Verne’s 183rd birthday today.  Did you see the Google logo tribute today? Pretty cool…based on 20,000 Leagues under the Sea.

I hadn’t thought of Jules Verne lately…not since I read those classics aloud to my three sons who loved them as much as I did when I was a kid.

Come to think of it, Jules Verne was probably my first serious introduction to science fiction and to the thrill of science in general.   Which is probably why I’m in this business of industrial electronics.

It’s exciting each and every day to me and to our tech team to resolve your industrial electronic repair needs, from the simple repairs to the complicated and mysterious challenges.

For a few moments, we can imagine we are Captain Nemo repairing the Nautilus when we are doing drive repairs or servo motor repairs.

A Journey to the Center of the Earth, 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea, Around the World in Eighty Days…ah, now there’s some fine reading no matter what your age, your generation, or your disposition.  Read them again and rediscover your inner scientist.

The Terrible Towels vs. the Cheeseheads: Super Bowl XLV Will be Epic

Super Bowl XLV is only three days away and the excitement is building for what could potentially be an absolutely epic game.

Both teams are well positioned to walk away with the Lombardi trophy and a pile of oversized, gaudy rings on Sunday.   Of one thing you can be certain – it will be a major slugfest between the Green Bay Packers and the Pittsburgh St…Ste..Stee… (arrrrrgh, as a Baltimore Ravens fan I cannot possibly bring myself to utter their name but you know who I’m talking about, they of the yellow rags, uh, I mean terrible towels).  Though I will admit, head coach Mike Tomlin is a class act and Troy Palumalu is a great talent and exciting to watch.

Both teams have a venerable Super Bowl history with Pittsburgh having won 7 times and Green Bay 4, so either way, history repeats itself…it’s just a question of which history.

I know Madden has predicted Pittsburgh will win (see, I still can’t say St..Ste…you know) and he is almost always right but Vegas gamblers are choosing the Packers in a big way.

Gentlemen and ladies, I am putting my money on the Green Bay Packers.  Partly because I think Green Bay is hungrier for the victory, and partly because Packers QB Aaron Rodgers is ready to take on Big Ben.  But mostly, it’s because the rivalry is just too deep for a Ravens fan to go any other way.

Go Cheeseheads!!!

6 Prognostications for Business in 2011

Punxsutawney Phil, he of the infamous shadow, announced today that he saw no shadow upon emerging from his rodent abode, so spring will be here soon.  Not a moment too soon for most of the country which has seen quite enough snow, ice and finger-numbing temperatures.  Probably quite enough for Phil too, since his cozy burrow in Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania was completely iced last night by a major storm.

Prognosticating rodents aside, 2011 is bound to be a better year than 2010.  After all, it wouldn’t take a helluva lot to be better.  My “research” (those who work with me would refer to this as playing on the internet) tells me the near economic future will be pretty much a can of mixed nuts with each handful delivering some goodies along with a few disappointments.  Brazil nut anyone?

6 2011 Predictions:

  • Oil prices will continue to rise (bad); growth will occur in those states involved in energy production (good)
  • Interest rates will stay about the same
  • Commodity prices will rise but not go crazy.  For you that means a rise in prices of steel, aluminum, copper, etc.
  • The U.S. economy will indeed grow enough to get out of recession levels and there will be no double-dip either
  • U.S. manufacturing will experience slow but steady growth
  • Social networking and mobile devices are going to be increasingly important to business so don’t get left behind

As spring draws near make sure your industrial electronic equipment is in good working order so you can complete those orders.  Check out our website at  or contact our hard-working and ever-cheerful customer service team to get help with your industrial electronic repairs.

Brace Yourselves for More Snow While We Keep Repairing Your Electronics!

Brace yourselves!  The Snowpalooza is apparently here.  We in the Mid-Atlantic are shivering in our boots, just not used to all this ice and snow.  Ocean City beaches are just a faint, sandy memory at the moment.

And driving?  If you’re from Chicago or Buffalo, you know Baltimoreans are incapable of driving in winter weather (me excepted of course!).  It’s a sight to behold!  I mean, did you HEAR about all the abandoned cars out there after our last storm?  Yep.  Abandoned…right in the middle of the road.   Now, where did those people go?  I dunno, but we haven’t found any of’em frozen in a snow bank yet!

Whatever the weather this week, here at ACS we will stay busy working on your repairs.  The weather guessers say it won’t be too bad this time around here in Maryland (but you can bet those darn kids will get yet another day off of school to consume every crumb in my house! Locusts, I tell you!)

So, for all of our customers in the path of “Snowmageddon”, hunker down and stay warm, stay put, and make sure your shovels and emergency gear are ready at hand.  Need a laugh?  Here in the Baltimore area, our snow emergency gear consists of milk, bread and toilet paper, and, for the super-prepared, throw in a bag of Ice-Melt and two lawn chairs.  Lawn chairs?  To guard your freshly shoveled parking spot, of course!   Really.  Just ask any Baltimore convenience store owner what happens when the forecasters call for even a dusting of snow.

You may be experiencing the blizzard of the century where you are but if we already have your item in for repair, you will still be getting industrial electronic repair services from ACS.  Servo drive repairs, power supply repairs, encoder repairs, circuit board repairs…it’s all still a go here!  We will do our best to work with you on any shipping challenges that might result from the storm in your area.

Tell us your snow stories when you dig out of your igloo. We’ll be here!
