Touchscreen Monitor Repair

Remember those bulky monitors that were heavy, unreliable, and prone to breaking down at the wrong time?

Thanks to touch screens, they’re mostly a thing of the past.

In addition to being easier to use and access, touch screens have almost no footprint because they are built into the operating machinery. They also have the ability to handle multiple tasks at the same time and they can be easily customized for different operating systems.

Touch screens draw power from the machinery they are part of, and when you add in the fact that they are easy to install and can be upgraded with little effort, it’s easy to see why they’ve become an industry standard.

Touch Screen Repair

Even though touch screens are excellent tools for your operation, they can still malfunction and break due to a variety of factors.

In many cases, the first indication of a problem is that the screen becomes unresponsive – this can be caused by built up dirt and grime, extreme temperatures, scratches, and employees using pens and other objects on the screen, instead of their fingers.

Like any other type of system, touch screen monitors rely on motherboards, internal circuits and components that can break or malfunction. Power surges can destroy these components and affect the screen’s performance.

Don’t forget that touch screens rely on operating software in order to do their job. Depending on the manufacturer, you can usually visit their website or contact their support team and determine what new drivers or software patches need to be installed.

One of the more popular brands of touchscreens on the market is the PanelView line from Allen-Bradley – which is owned by Rockwell Automation. The monitors’ dependability and reliability are well documented and are used in a variety of industries, including oil and gas, chemical, and food and beverage.

Help for a Successful Plant Maintenance Shutdown

Plant Maintenance Shutdown ButtonGetting ready for your annual or semi-annual plant maintenance shutdown?

To keep your budget and schedule on target, make your to-do list as short as possible and focus only on things that can realistically be accomplished during a major shutdown.

Everything else can be scheduled during normal minor shutdowns for preventive maintenance.  This may seem obvious but it can be tough to avoid getting sidetracked by legitimate repair needs and the “squeaky wheels” in your plant.

On the other hand, you can’t schedule emergencies and by now you have learned to expect the unexpected, and usually not in a good way.  ACS Industrial Services won’t be shutting down our repair center, and your ACS repair team will be here to help you with your industrial electronic equipment repairs, even the unexpected rush electronic repairs.

Since we never know exactly what will be on the loading dock in the morning, every day is the “unexpected” for us and we are ready for almost any repair and in any quantity!

Send us your damaged power supplies, broken drives, burned circuit boards, creaking servo motors, you name it.   Let our team help YOUR team with fast turnaround times, excellent service, two year warranties, and free evaluations.

Remember Those Who Paid For Our Freedom

ACS Industrial Remembers thos who paid for our freedomMemorial Day has come to mean picnics and barbecues, the beginning of summer or, if you live near a coastline, the official start of beach season.  All good things to be sure.

In fact, these good things can be enjoyed with freedom made possible by the sacrifices of the men and women of our Armed Forces who may have died protecting that freedom.

Remember to take a few minutes this Memorial Day, or every day, and remember this occasion was created to honor those who have paid the ultimate price for freedom.

ACS Industrial Services, a veteran owned business, would like to thank all the men and women of our Armed Forces and their families for their service and sacrifice.

Case Study: Preventing Unnecessary Repeat Repair Costs

Expert Fanuc A06B-6134-H203#A Drive RepairsHave you ever had to repair your electronic equipment twice?  Or more times even?  For the same, exact problem?  Maybe, for example, an expensive drive repair?  This unfortunate situation does happen with some regularity and it can usually be prevented by taking some simple, no cost/low cost steps.

Here’s a very recent case study in which this scenario was completely averted.  A Fanuc drive arrived on our loading dock needing repair.  Enclosed with the unit were notes about the errors it was showing.  Notes are great!

The repair was completed and shipped back like clockwork, but here’s the big difference.  The customer wanted to know some possible causes for this particular failure.  There are many of course, but here are a few we provided them to help isolate the problem:

Possible Drive Failure Causes

1. Open fuse.

2. Defective main power contactor.

3. Open or loose connections in wiring.

4. Defective step down transformer if one is used in this application.

A little time spent investigating the root cause of the failure before reinstalling a repaired unit can save you a big headache and a chunk of change.

Is this rocket science?  Heck no.  A big surprise?  Of course not.  But the prevention approach does bear repeating because it is too often overlooked.  Save yourself the headache and the extra money by checking out the integrity of the machine your damaged unit came out of before reinstalling the repaired unit.  Simple.  Worth it.  No extra money spent on repeat drive repairs this time!

Winning Solution For “Jerry-Rigged” Circuit Boards

Unique Solutions for Unrepairable Circuit Boards

Three New Circuit Boards Made From One Original

Sometimes we receive some pretty mysterious repair jobs on the old loading dock.  Recently we received three printed circuit boards that were so, so, well, so “jerry-rigged” that we were wondering how they ever worked in the first place what with the point to point hand wiring, jumpers, and patches all over them.  (Truth is, sometimes I miss the old days working on that loading dock…every day it is full of surprises!)

These “jerry-rigged” circuit board repairs were going to take a lot of man-hours and the cost was going to be pretty high.  The solution we offered this customer was to build them some brand new boards in-house at ACS rather than repair the scary boards – and for lower cost than it would have been to repair them!  Sometimes, the solution to the problem is staring you in the face and you just have to go with it.

There were actually four PCB’s needing repair in this shipment, three as described and one more than had been professionally manufactured.   Ultimately, copying the professional board to make the three new ones provided this customer with a more reliable solution, as well as having the added benefit of being able to reproduce them on-demand in the future from the files that were created.  This was a winning solution in every way.

ACS Industrial Services is here for you.  We want to make sure you always get the best solution that meets your needs in the time you need it.

Current Predictions for Manufacturing Business Conditions

Back in June the Precision Metalforming Association (PMA) were predicting a significant decline in business conditions during the 2012 summer months.  This report samples 114 metal forming companies in the U.S. and Canada and is an economic indicator for manufacturing.  However, by July PMA had modified their predictions considerably and are now expecting a slight uptick in business conditions over the next three months.

July’s report shows that 19% of participants anticipate economic activity will improve (up from 11% in June), 45% say it will remain unchanged (57% said unchanged in June), and 36% say activity will decline (32% said so in June).

Since many of our customers are precision metal formers we certainly hope you do experience an uptick in business!  What are your manufacturing predictions for the next three months?

One way to save money and protect your investments is to repair your existing manufacturing equipment. Damaged circuit boards, broken encoders, alarming CNC equipment, “dead” power supplies – none of these are necessarily the end of the line for that piece of equipment.  Most likely it can be repaired, and for substantially less than the cost of replacement.
