Repair Solutions From the Plant Floor
What would YOU do if your OEM told you they wouldn’t repair your circuit board because it wasn’t “economically feasible to repair”? The OEM should know, right? Well, not always. And, there ARE often other factors that go into that business decision about whether to repair or replace.
Our golf club manufacturer customer was not willing to throw in the towel on their Mitsubishi MC116 control board from their Mazak CNC lathe. And, theydidn’t want to spend more than necessary.
Fortunately, this circuit board WAS both repairable AND economically feasible to repair. By replacing only the damaged components including the eeprom, capacitors, Super Cap, RAM ICs, Transceiver ICs, Processor ICs and PAL chips this board was back in perfect operating order. Yes, that’s a lot of components to replace and yet, STILL these repairs cost our customer almost 60% LESS than it would have to replace the entire board. We’d call that economically feasible! And smart! Our customer was pretty pleased and that makes us pretty pleased too.
Here’s what our customer had to say: “The MC116 Board he (ACS tech Stefan) repaired for me is working perfectly after the OEM said it was not economically feasible to repair. Will recommend ACS Highly Thank you” – Jim. Well, thank YOU Jim! We love being able to solve our customer’s tricky repair problems. We are happy to help!
Repair of quality industrial equipment like this Mitsubishi control circuit board can be a great way to save money and time, as well as be environmentally responsible. Of course, there are situations where some circuit boards cannot be repaired economically, or even be repaired at all due to excessive damage or unavailable components.
If your damaged circuit board is readily available from your OEM and inexpensive to replace (less than about $500) you may want to consider replacement. If your circuit board(s) is more expensive or is a legacy board that is difficult or impossible to replace, then repair absolutely makes good sense. When in doubt, send it in for a free, no-obligation evaluation and repair quote. Having good information at your fingertips lets you make informed business decisions about whether to repair or replace.
