Automation Will NOT Replace Employees – Here’s Why

In an increasingly digital world, many are afraid of the possibility that robots could soon begin taking over jobs across many industries. While it’s true that the use of automation technology is increasingly being used, it will not replace human employees completely.

What Is Automation?

You might have heard or seen this term many times before, but many are unsure what it means. Simply put, automation refers to a variety of technologies that reduce the need for humans in the process. This automation can improve the efficiency of a human’s day-to-day tasks or eliminate them.

For example, if a person is baking cookies and forgets how much flour to add, they can ask their Amazon Alexa for the answer; this is a subtle way of automation helping humans in our daily lives. A more extreme example of this would be a self-driving car; this type of automation almost completely eliminates the need for a human driver.

While there are many types of automation, one thing remains certain: humans are essential and will not be entirely replaced by technology.

Why Automation Will NOT Replace Employees:

  1. They Enhance The Current Workforce

As briefly mentioned above, automation is already being used in our everyday lives, and where it is present in the workplace, it is proving to enhance our daily lives.

In companies where automation and employees work hand in hand, efficiency and cost reduction are prevalent. However, there always has to be staff to program and properly operate these machines. Additionally, it frees up employees to take care of other tasks that automated machines may not be able to perform.

2. Lack Of Dexterity

While robots might be able to do some jobs, specific jobs require steady hands and incredible dexterity. Engineers may be building robots to have hands similar to a human’s, but they will never have the full capabilities that we do, making them unable to perform on the same level.

3. Lack Of Creativity & Customer Connection

When employees get together to problem solve in collaborative and creative ways, the company thrives overall.

Robots are built to have a problem and solution mindset, but they cannot think outside the box. Humans can quickly think on their feet and implement new, creative solutions for the business. A robot will not be able to make quick decisions on improving the company, which makes human employees even more valuable.

Also, while professionals can program robots to provide excellent customer service, they do not genuinely connect with customers. For example, have you ever bought something from a store and ended up having a great conversation with the cashier, so you return to that business because you had a great experience?

That’s the kind of human connection that automation simply can’t replace. Regardless of how advanced the artificial intelligence (AI) is, robotics can’t fully replicate meeting another complex person.

Individuals’ abilities to optimize a process and think creatively, all while making personal connections with customers is often the backbone of business.
